Cupping

cuppingCupping is a centuries old therapy that uses suction and negative pressure to release soft tissue adhesions, drain excess fluids and toxins, lift connective tissue and bring blood flow to stagnant areas of the body. It is used worldwide in many different cultures, is highly effective in reducing pain and helps with numerous different ailments.
Another positive benefit of cupping’s negative pressure is that the pulling action of the cups engages the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing for deep relaxation throughout the body.
Cupping is done by positioning a cup over the treatment area and creating a vacuum with either heat or a hand pump that suctions the air out of the cup. Other types of cups use a bell cup that allows the cup to be manipulated to create the suction.
Cupping can feel somewhat uncomfortable to deeply pleasurable, depending on the individual. It is important to communicate with your therapist if the cups are too strong or not suctioning enough.
