Why should I get a massage?
Massage is a powerful form of self-care that helps you stay healthy by reducing stress, boosting your immune system, helping you relax, and enhancing your sense of well-being. Regular massage can relieve neck, shoulder, and back pain. Massage helps you feel better physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
How
long does a massage last?
A
typical massage lasts approximately one hour. If it is your
first time seeing me it will take a bit longer to go over health
history, answer questions, etc. Half hour and hour and a half
sessions are available also.
What should I do during
a massage?
Primarily,
you should relax! Focus on your breathing and try to let go.
It is up to you whether or not to talk, and most people choose
to close their eyes. Feel free to ask questions at any time.
Remember that this is your massage, and you should do what feels
most comfortable to you.
How much of my body will
be massaged?
This will
vary depending on the length and type of massage you choose.
The massage will never exceed your comfort level with touch – just
let me know if there are areas with which you are uncomfortable.
During the pre-massage interview, we will go
over areas you want to focus on and discuss any concerns
you have.
Do I have to get undressed
to get a massage?
For
chair massage and Thai Yoga massage, you remain clothed. During
a typical table massage, you undress down to your comfort level,
but your body always stays draped, and I will uncover only the
part of your body currently being massaged. Feel free to discuss
any concerns with me.
How often should I receive
a massage?
Your personal
situation will determine how often you receive massage. For
chronic pain or medical conditions your therapist and/or medical
doctor will help you determine what is best for your needs.
Massage is one of the best things you can do for yourself on
a regular basis to stay healthy and maintain a sense of well-being
in spite of stressful life situations!
What
to expect during your session...
If you have never had a massage or this is your first visit
to my office, first I will put you at ease and talk with you
a bit, answering any questions you may have. I have a client
information form that you fill out, and when you are finished
we discuss it. I like to know why you are here, if you are in
any pain, what your goals are for the session, and any concerns
you may have that we need to address.
After we have answered each other’s questions, I leave
the room so you can get undressed and get on the table. There
is always a top sheet to get under and you stay draped throughout
the massage. I work on one body part at a time and your genital
area is never exposed. (Breast tissue on a female is never exposed
either.) I ask people to get undressed down to their comfort
level, so you can keep your underwear on if you would like,
but it isn’t necessary. I tap on the door and ask if
you are ready before I come back into the room.
When the massage is finished I leave the room so you can get
dressed. You open the door when you are ready and I bring you
some water. This is when we schedule time for your next massage,
you make payment (cash or check), and I remind you to drink
a LOT of water and take an Epsom salt bath if possible. Then
you go on to have a fabulous day! |
