An Insider’s Viewpoint & Point of View

Locked in a massage room and can’t get out? Blinds fall off the window? Lobby chairs falling apart? Computers, cell or office phones, headsets, Ipods, hot towel cubbies need fixing or installing? Paperwork need to be sorted and filed? Pictures need to be hung and displays need to be set up? Phone calls, faxes, problem solving, supplies need to be ordered and stocked, customer needs help, therapists need assistance? I’m your girl.

I am an Assistant Office Manager and I work at Relax! Massage Therapy and Infinity Acupuncture and here, each day brings new surprises. My grandfather was a jack- of-all- trades and I luckily seemed to have inherited that trait which has been an asset in having this job. Each day, in what I call my “fish tank” at our Massage Office, from behind the glass I help conduct the orchestra of daily “to dos” that need to be completed in order to help this growing business function. I love being busy and helping things run as smoothly as possible.

When people ask the socially obligated question, “What do you do?” I smile and think, “What don’t I do…” But I have to say, my favorite part of the job is talking to someone who is looking for help and advice about what they are struggling with and I can tell them all about the benefits of acupuncture and massage! Cupping, moxa, acupuncture, herbs, therapeutic, deep tissue, swedish, reflexology, hot stones– all of these techniques and massages have worked for hundreds of years! The benefits of adding these to your health care plan are rewarding and natural.

When a client who has experienced chronic pain comes floating out of their massage and tells you, for the first time in weeks they are feeling relief from pinched nerves, and a busy working parent comes out of an acupuncture treatment feeling less anxious and having more mental clarity– boom! High-five!

My job is where the question and the answer meet.

For as long as I can remember, I have gotten a secret thrill from helping other people. I love the look of relief or excitement on someone’s face and the change in the tone of their voice when they realize they are understood, appreciated, not alone, and worthy of being helped and cared about by another human being. We are all worthy.

Monday through Friday, from 9 am-5 pm, you’ll most likely get me on the other end of the phone when you call. When a person is in pain, uncomfortable, anxious, seeking advice, the phone rings and I’m up to bat. I love being able to talk with you about bettering your life.

Am I gushing on because it’s my job?! Pssshh, no way! I am a client as well as an employee. I have always loved receiving massage because hey, who doesn’t want tension and stress to be kept away from physically wreaking havoc on body parts we need to work on a daily basis! But, I have always been TERRIFIED of needles. Terrified like I was sent to see a specialist when I was younger…

So, how did I go from being physically ill, causing a scene, stressing out my parents, embarrassing my grown self in needle situations to working at an ACUPUNCTURE practice receiving treatments on a regular basis? Weeelllll, I have to get back to my “fish tank” now, so you’re just going to have to stay tuned in for the next excerpt from life behind the glass window.
